I’ve been offered an opportunity to work on a civic web site project by a joint venture group based in Melbourne. The job came up by chance and is on a tight schedule – would normally be subject to a formal tendering process. It is a basic web site, requiring strict attention to web accessibility standards and utilising the open source Drupal content management system.

I am familiar with Drupal, having run test installations of it although I’ve never done any extensive work with it – never really had the right project. Looks like I’ll be doing some light reading – the Drupal handbook this weekend.

Project specs include:
Calendar – http://drupal.org/project/calendar/
WYSIWYG editor – http://drupal.org/handbook/modules/tinymce

  1. I’m having doubts about this one. It looked promising and we were having a happy dialogue for a while, until the project manager realised I live and work in Queensland! I could be jumping to conclusions, but the silence is deadly. I shall follow this up on Monday if I hear nothing further in the morning. Since they are on a tight schedule I’d like to get into it as soon as I can. If they don’t want me for the job, fine – I’ll divert my attention elsewhere.

  2. Well I finally got a response – I was right about the Queensland factor. They decided they need someone who can develop the site and be available in person to work with their staff.
