Hubby and I went for a nice drive down to Northern NSW today – nice that is, until we were about two thirds of the way home on our return trip and had a huge rock thrown at us by some juvenile delinquents hiding in the bush on the side of the motorway.
The rock that hit us was about the size of half a housebrick and it bounced once on the road before hitting the front of hubby’s car, damaging the grill, radiator and airconditioning unit. Another two cars were hit side-on by more rocks and copped some panel damage. All up about $5,000 damage hubby reckons.
All three of us pulled over to the side of the road and hubby called the police, before taking off down the bush track after the kids. They got away but hubby was able to give a few extra details to the attending officer.
Hi Liss, it amazes me that some kids don’t think about the dangers of throwing rocks.
And as I read this post it made me think about another rock throwing at traffic incedent that I heard about on the radio which happened two or three years ago.
The boy had a pile of rocks and as he was on a bridge he was throwing them down onto the passing traffic on the highway, and he caused some damage to a truck and also an accident.
Yeah Jo, you have to wonder whether the same kids would feel any remorse if their actions caused an injury or death.
