New cars must be a magnet to some people on the road, I’ve already had two close shaves. First time, driver was in the wrong lane – thought they were in a one-way street I think; second time driver was hauling a trailer and while overtaking me swerved and swung into my lane. Had to swerve onto the shoulder both times to avoid collision.

Tax refund
Chatting to the cook at work the other day she commented that she doesn’t enjoy cooking in her free time. Same is true of bookkeepers, I’ve been getting neglectful of my own books in last twelve months, I only just lodged my tax return for 2008/09 – due today. In the past I usually had everything done by mid-July.
Had a pleasant surprise though, a tiny bit of change to come back into my pocket.

In a name
I realised the other day that the letters of my name include the word “stern”. This is funny because at work I often feel like the stern one, in charge of finances and from time to time having to bring people’s adherence to procedure into line.

Picked up my new Mazda 3 Maxx hatch on Friday. 6-speed, cruise control, CD player and very zippy.
