Moffat Beach

A restful couple of weeks stay at a pet friendly holiday house at Moffat Beach, near Caloundra. I settled into a daily holiday routine of reading, napping, and exploring the beaches and coastal trails of Caloundra with Ebby at my side.

The holiday house offered comfy armchairs – the perfect place to snuggle up in a blanket and watch evening news, or go for a snooze in the morning, after our walk! There was also a lovely old clawfoot bath where I indulged in a luxury bubble bath.

There was plenty to see and do. Went for a wander along Bulcock Street and watched the buskers and stopped for a coffee at one of the cafes. Another day, we walked up to Shelly Beach via McIlwrath Street. Some beautiful homes along there – works of art.

Rainforest Retreat

For my birthday I was treated to an awesome stay at O’Reilly’s Rainforest Retreat, inside the Lamington National Park. Highlights were the beautiful sights, the birds and the wonderful food that was prepared for us.

Thanks Mum, I loved having this time away with you in this lovely place.

New England and the Granite Belt

Just had a ripper couple of days with Mum on the road, visiting Aunty Pam and my wonderful old school buddy Olga down near Armidale in the New England region.

On our way back we spent some time at Stanthorpe, did some bushwalking at the beautiful Giraween National Park (climbed up to “The Pyramid”) and saw a fascinating dog obedience display.

The national park was full of awesome rock formations and flora, took some photos with my phone. Lot of lovely homes and gardens around Stanthorpe also, and some very friendly people. The managers at the motel where we stayed let us take home some cuttings from a gorgeous native hibiscus with a striking white bloom.

Dicky Beach Holiday

Jo and I spent a week up at Caloundra on the Sunshine Coast, staying at a resort hotel across the road from Dicky Beach. It was a great time of year to be there – not too hot or crowded. We had a great time visiting all the local beaches and window shopping along the main drag.

Dicky Beach was named for the S.S. Dicky, a steamer ship driven onto the beach by a wild storm in the 1880’s. Above is what is left of the wreck after 130 years.

Our self-contained accommodation at Portobello was very good with almost every convenience we could want and proximity to shops and beach. Also a friendly hairdresser (Carly) who gave me a much needed trim and general pampering! Easy access for Jo and lovely surroundings contributed to an easy and relaxing time away.

The Brisbane Wheel

A trip to Brisbane with two nieces and their Nan where we rode the wheel, caught a flick (Hugo) at Imax and wandered through Southbank.

Bundaberg Trip

This month Jo and I took off together for a week up at Bundaberg, staying at Lime Cottage in Burnett Heads. This was our second stay at the cottage, the first was back in 2009. A pleasant, quiet out-of-the-way spot, handy to all the places we wanted to go.

The main agenda for the week was to relax, and reconnect with Mother Nature. We spent time at Kellys Beach at Bargara, Oaks Beach at Burnett Heads and the Bundaberg Botanic Gardens. The garden at Lime Cottage is also quite lovely and serene.
