A few months ago I took one of my favourite photos of the garden – pots of herbs and geraniums, with hibiscus growing in the bed beyond from cuttings Dad had struck.
When I potter in the garden, the gardeners in my family never feel very far away.
One of them was my Aunty Bernadette, who passed away yesterday. She probably inherited her love of gardening from Gran, who had a wonderful garden of her own. Bern went on to study horticulture and lovingly cared for the North Sydney gardens of the Sisters of St Joseph.
She also taught Dad how to strike cuttings properly – the proof of which is still growing in my garden today.
