It’s happening much faster than I expected, but by the end of the month I should be the new owner of a Mazda CX-30 Hybrid, after getting a surprisingly good trade-in deal on my 2018 Mazda 3.
I had been considering a Toyota hybrid because I like the way its petrol-electric system works and the fuel savings are impressive. But after test-driving a Yaris Cross, I realised I wasn’t ready to give up the driving feel and comfort I’m used to with Mazda.
Hubby converted me to Mazda years ago, and I’ve had a great run with my Mazda 3s. The CX-30 feels like a natural next step — a little higher, roomier, and still very nice to drive.
Mazda’s hybrid system is much milder than Toyota’s, so the fuel savings are fairly modest. But I expect to be driving less for the foreseeable future anyway, which made the compromise easier.
The CX-30 should also suit Jo well, with plenty of room for her wheelchair and only a small increase in height from the ground.
So, Sonic Silver it is, with tinted windows and a few extras thrown in. I’m looking forward to it.
