Rosie came to us late in life.
She was already an elderly little lady when we adopted her, and we had only a couple of years with her, but she quickly became part of the family. She and my husband were especially close. Rosie followed him everywhere and was very much his little shadow.
Not long after we returned from a holiday in Japan, Rosie began to deteriorate. Watching her decline was heartbreaking, particularly for hubby.
Around the same time, we had decided to rescue another dog — twelve-month-old Freya, a Shepherd–Husky cross. She could hardly have been more different from Rosie: young, energetic and full of mischief.
Losing Rosie was devastating. Freya could never replace her, but having a lively young dog around gave us something else to focus on and helped soften the emptiness Rosie left behind.
Sometimes a new beginning arrives just as another chapter is closing.
