The fabulous floating island restaurant, street markets and spectacular city lights.

City of contrasts – centuries old palace set against modern cityscape on one side, and picturesque mountains on the other.

Our bus ride to the DMZ, about an hour north of Seoul, was through some very pretty country. Eventually barbed wire fencing and watch towers became a feature of the landscape, and then we hit the checkpoint where a young serviceman boarded the bus and scanned our faces before letting us pass. Our tour guide gave a moving explanation of why S.Koreans are, in general, keen for an “end of separation, beginning of unification”. A people divided – politically, geographically and economically.

In late Sep 2019 we departed Sydney airport on the first leg of our big adventure, visiting seven countries in 20 days on a chartered Qantas 747, first stop Seoul in South Korea.

My first international airport after an 11 hour flight. The beautiful hotel waiting for us was a welcome sight.
