Sasquatch is the nickname we give our beloved little Cavalier King Charles Spaniel dog.. aka Sassy, The Rat, Sas Rat and just plain old Sasha!
She’s gently snoring on her bed at my feet at the moment – most of her day is spent sleeping in bed, or moving to another part of the house where there is a doggie bed. She’s not a young dog, but she’s always loved her sleep.
She had a big morning today, took her to the Vet for her annual jab. The vet suggested we hold off on this while we tackle the problem of her severe itchy skin. Some swabs showed significant bacterial infections, and she probably has some type of allergy.
So for the next couple of weeks we will be trying to reduce the symptoms by bathing her a couple of times a week in a medicated shampoo (which has to stay on for 10 minutes before rinsing), and adding Omega oils to her food.
She has to go back in a few weeks to get a couple of bad teeth extracted and after that we will look at seriously trying to find what she is allergic to! I’m not sure we’ll find a cure, but as long as we can alleviate the itchiness for her I’ll be happy.
Four weeks later, and BIG improvement in Sashy’s skin. Flakiness has gone, it is becoming smoother every day. She still has irritation, but nowhere near as bad as before. Everytime she starts to scratch I grab her and daub on some calamine lotion.
We’ve a little of the Omega oil supplement left, when it gets near the bottom will organise another visit to the Vet.
