Our big Shepherd Boss doesn’t handle stairs well. He’s ok on the up bit, but coming down is always difficult. Hubby normally has to half carry him. Not that we’ve ever encouraged our dogs to come upstairs, but Boss is a bit of a sook who sometimes can’t wait for hubby to come down.
Yesterday morning I was getting breakfast ready for both dogs. They both get kind of anxious about it if I don’t hurry up. Just as I was about to carry their food out Bossy heard hubby getting out of bed and shot up the stairs. I thought it might be an opportunity to feed them separately, since Ebby is such a guts we normally have to stand guard to stop her from stealing Boss’ food.
Big mistake. Boss heard me and Ebby at the back door and didn’t want to miss out, he started coming down the stairs. Hubby was worried the dog would injure himself and grabbed hold – and was pulled down. Not good on a broken ankle, and for his trouble he was slammed straight into the wall at the bottom. There is now a nasty big hole in the plasterboard.
Lucky H didn’t crack his neck… Just goes to show, some days you should just stay in bed!
