  • Cobwebs and prickles

Since moving out here there are two things I’ve come to detest – cobwebs and prickles. This week I’ve been getting stuck into clearing away about a year’s worth of cobwebs on the back porch. Much nicer now and I’m not afraid to sit out there for fear a spider jumps on me. Shame I can’t say the same about the prickles that are infesting our yard at the moment. They stick to your shoes and get tracked everywhere and if you happen to sit on one, or step on one with bare feet they HURT!

I have a sore neck and shoulders now from cleaning the cobwebs from the ceiling but I don’t mind; the result is worth it. And I’m going to get some surface spray into all the nooks and crannies to dissuade the spideys from returning too soon. Aint nothing short of a fire going to get rid of those prickles though.

  • New Indy movie gets thumbs up

Hubby and I each had the day off work yesterday, so we decided to go to the cinema and catch the latest Indiana Jones movie – the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull. As usual, fantastic action scenes and a few little plot holes but I’d have to say overall it gets the thumbs up of approval from me. I might even go so far as to call it my favourite Indy movie, due to the element of sci-fi and close encounter of the third kind in this one.

Kate Blanchett stars as the villain and puts in a top performance, mastering yet another foreign accent.

  • Feed me!

My Cook-e-licious feed in the sidebar here has been playing up for no apparent reason, I think there is a gremlin somewhere. It is working again at the moment, but if it misbehaves again I shall try the solution suggested on the WordPress support forums which changes a line of code in rss.php.

Feeding of a different sort, on Sunday the final event for Hospice Week – a fundraising barbeque went really well. About 400 people attended. The food and the music was great. Took Jo along and we had a great time.

  • Tired, achy and cranky

I’m tired of being nice. There are many good volunteers, but there are one or two who have good intentions but create a lot of hard work, and have their own different idea of how things should run and of what is of benefit to the organisation. This week has been a long week, into work every day to help with preparations for various events during Hospice week. It is nearly over thank goodness, just one more event tomorrow. Back to a two day week next week. I think I’ll be using the gift voucher some friends gave me for a back massage very soon.

I am in the process of moving web sites from one host to the other. I’ve just discovered the job will be made more difficult by the fact that the old host is not providing proper database backups. The old host has still not addressed the other problems since their upgrade weeks ago. At least I am paid up with them until October, so there is no huge rush to move things over.

  • hamjak.com

I’ve moved (again!) My new home on the web is at www.hamjak.com.

  • New hosting company

For the last five years I’ve been using the same company for all my domain registration and web hosting. This company’s standard of customer service is pretty poor, but up until recently the benefits of being with them outweighed that. Pricing was good, reliability was good, and their servers are based here in Australia, which was great.

Lately they have really been giving me the willies and I’ve decided to give them the flick. They stuffed something up with cPanel during an upgrade a few weeks ago and still haven’t fixed it. Pretty major problem – it is preventing me from creating new accounts. No reply to any of my emails, I rang them and still got nowhere. It’s the final straw.

So I’ve now signed with a new company and I’m pretty impressed with the level of communication and support (they have an active public forum and support ticket system which I checked out first).

They even gave me a free domain name, which I’ll be using for my blog – so in future my web address will be www.hamjak.com.
