Sometimes life follows an overly familiar route and you get into a rut and your days all seem grey and you suddenly wonder what happened, where did the passion go?

It’s a question that came up recently on my favourite online women’s forum, a lot of the girls there are married, raising young families. The common answer to the question was “family”, perhaps because it is the all consuming priority in these young women’s lives at present.

Interesting to note that the couple of us who haven’t yet made babies were able to answer more comprehensively.

My passions:  learning and improving my knowledge; reading good novels (watching good movies); doing my job well and being an integral part of a team. Nature, art and music (love my djembe) invoke a certain passion in me too. The geek in me is also passionate about technology – particularly the internet, and observing the effects on our society and culture.

Drumming on Saturday morning, a little bit tired (late night watching Supernatural episodes). Still doing fankani, learning solo bits. Not so many people at the class, but still a large group. My new drum stand is a little too high, I have to cut it down.

Yesterday afternoon, drove down to Paddington with H to pick up the office furniture I’d bought from Louise, lady I met on AYW. She had a psychology practice at Paddo, but has decided to give it away to run her photography business full-time from home.

Today, went to the centenary mass at Rosewood. Was packed to the rafters, with people from Ipswich and Brisbane. Saw the mayor, a few other local politicians and dignitaries. Bishop John Bathersby said the mass, gave a nice sermon relating some of the Rosewood church’s history. St Brigids church is named for St Brigid of Kildare, Ireland.

Another day at home, doing committee work for the dog rescue group. Couple of emails from Kathryn. Seems that some of the ideas I’m bouncing off her aren’t hitting the target, she’s asking me questions I’ve already answered.

My drum stand turned up today, arrived just as H was returning home from a short trip into town. A little bigger than I thought it would be, will have to trim the legs I think. Drumming tomorrow.

At home all day today; thought I’d start de-cluttering my office in preparation for the new furniture I’m getting this weekend. Wasn’t a planned purchase, just an opportunity to buy some second hand stuff from someone I know, I liked it so I made an offer.

Also working on getting committee stuff organised for the dog rescue group. Ludelle is in favour, but enough on her plate so the running around is up to me and another volunteer, Kathryn. Good to have someone else to bounce things off.

Was expecting a delivery today, a drum stand for my djembe. Bit of a mix up occurred, the courier wont deliver to a PO Box so gave them my home address – said they’d be out today but it’s a no show. Hope this doesn’t mean I have to stick around home all day tomorrow.

First day of holidays, it’s been a year since my last lot of leave. Mentioned this to Ros yesterday and she was surprised, said it wasn’t healthy. She agreed the year had been full on but from now on hols every six months.

H. and I drove into Ipswich this morning, the plan was to drop H. off at Riverlink, go onto the hospice for a cuppa with Jan, who celebrated her 75th birthday yesterday, then rejoin H. at Riverlink. While dropping H. off at the shopping centre I picked up a lovely bunch of sweet smelling roses for Jan, and as we were about to part ways we ran into Peter and Jody, with Emmett and Wyatt in tow. Pete’s on holidays too.

Jan loved her flowers, I’m so glad. After the robbery the other week its been hard for her, she needs nice things to happen.

In reference to ‘thousands’, I was wondering recently whether the correct usage was “k” or “K”. It seems that it is entirely subjective, but lower case “k” is the common usage when denoting thousands of dollars.

During my research into the question I came across an interesting discussion on mathforum.org about this, and encountered usage of “M” to denote thousands, “MM” to denote millions. I’ve not noticed this before (perhaps it is a US peculiarity). Good to know.
