  • Witcheypoo prank

I’d like to know how Hubby’s seargent copes with all the pranks he and his colleagues pull on her. The latest involved some creative use of lost property – one pair of shoes, one pair of striped “witcheypoo” stockings stuffed with scrunched up paper to make them look like real legs. The result – something out of the Wizard of Oz. But instead of Dorothy’s house it was the boss’ desk that crushed the Wicked Witch of the East.

  • My squishy

On Sunday I was full of discontent – and this after Mass too, when you would expect some reflection and prayer would have shed some of the distractions and obstacles that were weighing so heavily.

I poured my complaints out to Mum, and felt relieved, and a little disloyal to my man, he being the chief cause for complaint at that time. But having got it out of my system, when I returned home I treated him kindly and it was returned and my heart glowed again.

Early this morning I couldn’t sleep. He was also awake and I placed my arm around him and breathed in his presence, feeling warm and squishy inside and thankful that he was there.

  • The creative process

There is a wonderful quote from Dorothy Parker – “The cure for boredom is curiosity; there is no cure for curiosity.”

To be creative one must be continually curious and eager to learn all sorts of things. Another stage of the creative process is incubation – mulling over what you know in detail until you reach that ‘Eureka’ moment.

This from an interesting little article A Quick Course in Creativity by Paul McNeese.

  • Bat flattery

Roger the kitchen shopping volunteer borrowed the work wagon to do the shopping today – and wished he’d taken his own car like he usually does. Having just loaded all the groceries into the back, he couldn’t get the wagon started. Flat battery.

Another volunteer Ailsa went to his rescue. Roger was in a tizzy because his daughter was in the labour ward having her first child and he wanted to get going. So Ailsa collected Roger, dropped him back to his car then went back to the shopping centre to wait for RACQ.

The fun continued – RACQ jump-started the wagon and said it would be ok as long as Ailsa kept the engine running and let it charge back up. She drove it straight back to work, I jumped in while the engine was still running and we drove straight back to collect Ailsa’s car.

We’d almost got back to the shopping centre and hit traffic lights. Lights turned green and the car conked out on a busy road! Luckily we managed to push it around the corner and out of the traffic. Even luckier, as we were pushing the car the same RACQ guy spotted us as he was finished another job. We’d just pulled over and next moment he was pulling up in front of us. Terrific timing.

He gave the car another jump start, I let Ailsa off to her car and she followed me back to work without further incident.  Batteries don’t like the heat apparently and ours died. I jumped on the phone then and arranged for a new one, the store Battery World came out within the hour and installed for us. Funnily enough, I’d found the store via Google, and the owner who came out said that they were in their second day of trading and we were their first call-out customer!

  • Lizards and geckoes

A little lizard, or skink ran into the office today. As he ran past me through to Alison’s office, Wendy and Judy squealed and my immediate thought was spider crawling up my leg! but no, it was this little skink. Judy and I crawled around the office floor trying to catch the little guy so we could release him outdoors. At one point we thought he’d crawled inside a computer, but eventually I managed to catch him (he pooped all over my hands – white poop!)

Greg the cleaner had been watching us and we started talking about geckoes. Greg knew a man who noticed that his goldfish were slowly disappearing. Oneday he happened to see a big gecko at the top of the fish tank, it ducked its head in and came out with a goldfish in its mouth!

  • Tongue tied

Wallowing in a sea of self-loathing and self-pity tonight. Work – I have no idea if what I do there is helpful or valued. Tonight at Exec meeting I got the impression my work on budget was a waste of time. I get the feeling I am more of a hindrance than a help to other team members. The cook casually mentioned today that she could do my job but would get bored. I can’t articulate my thoughts at all. I suck big time. I feel like resigning.
