  • Putting to Good Use

    Luke 16:19-31

Today’s parable of the rich man and Lazarus reinforces the gospel teaching about the right use of money and possessions. Rich or poor, discipleship is about opening our hearts to God and orientating our wealth (in whatever form it exists) to the benefit of those in need.

The sin of the rich man was not that he was rich, but that he failed to share his wealth with the beggar at his gate. He knew Lazarus, perhaps walked by him every time he came in or out, but did nothing to relieve his suffering. Is there a Lazarus in my life? What am I doing to help?

  • Anagrams

I tried my name in this anagram server. Here are some of the best ones:

    Aimless
    Ale Miss
    Lame Sis

My husband works in a Snare Unit, where they Saunter In to places and arrest Irate Nuns. He likes to visit Neat Ruins, where Rain Tunes are sometimes sung but lately it’s been so dry all we’ve been getting is Ants Urine.

John Howard becomes War – Doh! John – a comment perhaps on involving Australia in the Gulf war? His political rival Kevin Rudd has survived many muck raking attempts recently, including his visit to a striptease club some years ago. But it was ok, because he was in the Dive Drunk.

  • Another year older

My birthday on Saturday, 40 is beckoning ever closer. I definitely feel my age, I was telling a friend the other day about the supplements I’m taking to help improve my memory. We laughed because I had to admit that I keep forgetting to take them!

Had a good day on Saturday. Hubby gave me a beautiful gold and sapphire cross on a chain – I don’t know how he knew I wanted one. I met Traddy, one of Hubby’s work colleagues when we popped over in the morning to help her trim down a tree in her garden with Hubby’s chainsaw. After that we went out for lunch at one of the local taverns. The food was great and we were absolutely stuffed! Picked up some movies on DVD on the way home and relaxed in front of the TV for the rest of the day, it was wonderfully relaxing.

A good day on Sunday too, even though it was Hubby’s last day of holidays. After mass in the morning Mum, Dad and Jo gave me a lovely morning tea with coffee cake 🙂

  • Mad World

    In today’s headlines:
    * Violent dad attacked little Pumpkin
    * Man cuts throat in Woolworths
    * Nude robber in store stick-up
    * Rock attack teens ‘had been throwing eggs’

Doesn’t it sound like a crazy world?!

  • Get that mole checked

I found a dodgy mole in the middle of my back a couple of weeks ago. It is raised and scabby, at first I thought it was a pimple. I suppose I should have it checked out medically, but a perverse part of me just wants to let nature take its course.

UPDATE 1 October: Very silly of course to ignore things like this. In light of Mum’s history with melanoma I finally got my mole checked out – last week as a matter of fact when I was getting my ears treated. Had it cut out today, and at the same time Doctor removed another three! A bit stiff at the moment, but hardly any pain. Expect there will be some tonight when I go to bed – some nice strong painkillers should relieve that I hope!

  • Gave notice to SalesForce

Until I did a couple of days at the Hospice I was keeping my options open with the SalesForce@Home work. But it looks like the Hospice job will work out, even though it is a completely different change of pace it will do me a lot of good to get out of the house and mix face-to-face with people again.

I think SalesForce@Home is a fantastic idea for people who need to work from home. I was very impressed with the training and support, the philosophy and the passion of the people behind it. Even though I felt my first work session was a shambles – getting totally lost in the scripts, it was work I could have carried on with I think, had this other opportunity not come up.
