Physiotherapy Going Well
March 4th, 2008 @ 7:37 am

Recently I have been going to Laidley Hospital for physiotherapy sessions, and I’m pleased to say that it is going well. The physiotherapist’s name is Katie and she is the fourth physiotherapist that I have been to; and now that I’ve been there four times find that the things she gets me to do is tailored to suit what I’m trying to do and she told me when I told her this that I have a very specific goal and that makes it easier for them: as she explained that most people that come to them don’t have a clear goal in mind and just tell them they want to be better.

Also the things that she gets me to do are things like standing up and making sure my hips are forward then sitting down. And I have to do this while holding onto the table; then I have to repeat it without holding on to anything. Then other types of exercises are: the stomach exercise, and this is done by lying on my stomach; then the next exercise is done by sitting on the floor with my legs stretched out as much as I can; and also another exercise that I do helps put more of my weight on my right leg.

Then some of the newer exercises are things like picking up Ilse’s toys off the floor, and to do this I first make sure that I’m standing up tall then I have to bend from the hips and knees then straighten up again; and the other exercise is done by putting my right foot on and off a big dictionary that I got. And this helps me lift my right foot up higher so that I’m less likely to trip over it.

Katie also suggested to me to try to walk slower, and find that doing so helps when I walk on different surfaces, and not just uneven ground. Also while at the hospital I also do stuff outside, and she also gets mum to instruct me to do normal, slow, and fast pace like we do in an obedience trial.

    Hi,

Having made myself walk more slowly has increased my confidence, as I now find that I’m less wary when I walk over uneven or different surfaces. And I feel that realising this I have also become more active.
