Rowan of Rin “The Journey” is a compilation of five books in one and the author is named Emily Rodda and is published by Omnibus Books which is an imprint of Scholastic Australia. Also the book’s ISBN is ISBN-13: 978 1 86291 592 3. and the other is ISBN-10: 1 86291 592 X and the five stories are: Rowan of Rin, Rowan and the Travellers, Rowan and the Keeper of the Crystal, Rowan and the Zebak, and Rowan of the Bukshah.

I decided to get stories that Emily Rodda wrote, as my eldest nephew sometimes talks about Deltora Quest and he told me that he once was one of the lucky few students that was picked to go and see the illustrator of Deltora Quest, who gave him some advice in what to look for before he draws.

Anyhow in the Rowan of Rin series we are introduced to a kid named Rowan, who is known in his village as a person who worries a lot, and is given the job to look after a herd of animals that are known as Bukshah; and we learn in the story that the village’s water supply is drying up and after they had a public meeting they decided to go and see their local witch as the adults thought that: she might have some useful information to give them before they went mountain climbing.

However no one can understand her much, and as it turns out she had given them a magical list of instructions that is full of riddles that they had to work out and they had to do what it said if they wanted to succeed. And as the witch has given this map to Rowan he had to come along on the quest too as the enchanted map would only work for him. Also along the way they found obstacles in their path and what happens is one of the members in the party gets so consumed by fear that they decide to go back.

But this doesn’t happen with Rowan, as although he is known as a worrier and is thought to be scared of everything on this journey he proved: that when it came to people depending on him that he was the sort of person that was more likely to succeed and after the adventure is completed people in his village are more respectful of him as he really had returned back as quite a hero.
