Not So Sensible

On our way to Plainlands Shopping Centre yesterday mum and I spotted a woman walking with a long, flat, and narrow bit of wood. Mum spoke first and said she obviously has some trouble with dogs on her walks. And I answered yes, and that would provoke dogs. My mother then agreed and said yes it would she then said I find throwing bits of food at approaching dogs works the best.

Could have been defence against Magpies. I was driving through Laidley the other morning and watched a boy on a pushbike waving a long stick above his head to scare away the birds as he was riding.

Hi Liss, And thanks for mentioning that. As now I agree that she was using it to scare away the birds. Though I think it was a dangerous thing that the kid did. As he would not have his full concertration on riding his bike.

It looked quite bizarre and yes, rather dangerous particularly as he was riding by the side of the road.

Sometime last year mum took my two nieces and I to a park in Laidley. And there were magpies there. I also noticed two things about them, and that is because I have a form of cerebral palsy I was aware that a maggie would have like to attack me but I think it was put off by my swaying, jerking movement.

Another thing that I noticed about this bird was when I got nearer to the car it definately changed its mind about attacking me. And this made me think that wild birds tend to stay clear of cars if they can help it. This is probably because they have observed the unfortunate animals, and birds getting run over by them.

You’re probably right about the cars Jo. The other day Ludelle was telling me about a young magpie she saw run over by a car as it was picking at some food on the road. It was a disgusting sight she said, the bird was obviously too young to know it should steer clear of the road.
