Making Progress, and New Exercises
March 8th, 2007 @ 7:57 am

When I went to the physiotherapist again, I told her since I’ve been doing the physiotherapy I haven’t been experiencing my legs locking up; I also told Jenny that I’m also started to notice that my right heel is hitting the ground occasionally when I’m walking.

We then did some exercises, and what is noticeably different is that Jenny allows me to do the exercises with her; as I told mum when I was a kid the physiotherapist did all the work and when I tried to work with one of them she told me “no let me do it.”

This was what annoyed mum as she wanted me to do the exercises, and now she knows why I just let her do it (she wasn’t happy being the one doing all the work.)

Anyway, Jenny got me to work with a ball this time, and it made the exercises a lot easier for instance when I did the bottom lift I could get it up higher; there was also a lot less pressure on my joints too.

She then got me to rock the ball from side to side while keeping my legs straight, and another one I did was bend my knees while my feet was on the ball then straighten my legs. The next thing I did was stand up and while holding on to a bench I put some of my body weight onto my right leg while keeping my back straight (working my stomach muscles.)

I didn’t know how to use my stomach muscles until Hazel a water aerobics instructor told me to straighten my back to pull my stomach muscles in.

Then getting back to Jenny she told me when I get up that I should have my right foot in front of my left as this makes it easier for me to get my right heel on the ground while standing. She also told me after the session was finished and I was walking out the door that I should walk more slowly to give my right foot a chance to put its heel on the ground.

Mum and I was then driving back home when I told her this:

“The difference between a physically abled person training a dog to a person that has a physically disability, is that the physically able body can just walk and their dog has to keep up with them; while a physically disabled person has to train their dog to walk at their pace.”

Hi Jo, glad to hear the physio went well. Sorry I had to work yesterday and couldn’t take you. That is interesting what you say about training a dog.
