Teaching Ilse How to Retrieve

I was looking at some books on the dogwise website, and found a book that was titled the clicked retriever; then reading the review it said the book gave the reader info on how to get their dog to retrieve. I then decided that I might start teaching Ilse this and started looking for websites that also gave information on how to teach the retrieve using the clicker, then if you are interested the website address is:

Sometime ago, mum got Ilse a little rubber dumbell so I have started her on that; then I got mum to find those clickers and it is a lot easier to teach using them as she is now touching the rubber dumbell more often.

    Ilse and I are making progress with the rubber dumbell, as when I was getting her to touch the dumbell with her nose, she wasn’t only doing that but after a while she started to open her mouth.

    When she did this I just clicked the clicker and said good girl then gave her a treat, and today when we were practising, I decided to lower the dumbell after I did a couple of easy ones and she still fetched it.

    Today, when Ilse and I were practising with the rubber dumbell,I decided to put the dumbell on the floor and told her to fetch, and she did.

    She then paraded around the room with it in her mouth and when she came back with it, that is when I clicked again and then gave her a treat. Normally, what Ilse does if she has got a toy, or something in her mouth, and she knows I want it she teases me with it.

    But teaching the dumbell with the clicker is different, as she knows the click means she will get a treat, and so she doesn’t try to tease.

    Just been practising with the dumbell again, and this time I threw the rubber dumbell out in front of me and Ilse followed it then got it and brought it back.

    She is so quick about learning things, now I just got to teach her to give the rubber dumbell to me, as right now she is just dropping it somewhere near me.
