A Stumbling BlockApril 28th, 2007 @ 9:46 am
This morning my mother came in and mention the notes that Donna gave us, as she wanted to make sure I read them; saying that it must be a disappointment for her as mum thought the others haven’t read them through: although the cattle dog named Jessie is really good at targeting so maybe they are just reading what they want to know? But who knows what they are doing, though just reading through the notes I found out that when we go to a person’s dog next to us we are suppose to say “go play” and then after a short time we are suppose to practise recalls.
Also as I was there last week, I remember no one seem to be doing this, and as well as trying to do the things that Donna wants us to do I also been practising retrieves with Ilse; well at least she was going out and bringing it back to me, but then as I was teaching her other things we then had a bit of a small break, and now she seems to think she has a choice so for now have stop throwing the rubber dumbell out for her to retrieve.
I must have been going too fast for her, but she is a dog that learns quickly; so now I’m just waiting till she is happy to pick the dumbell off the ground without the rubber dumbell being thown: she is also a dog that likes carrying toys but she doesn’t really like giving them to me and she often runs away with the toy in her mouth if she knows I’m interested in getting it from her.
Oh well, we’ll get there eventually.

My youngest niece Alyeisha was in my room yesterday, as I had Ilse out and she really likes dogs. Anyway I just finished telling her that Ilse likes to carry toys but she doesn’t really like giving them to people as she often runs off if she knows you want it.
Then I saw Alyeisha pick up another toy, and as Ilse was very interested she came over to Alyeisha with the other toy in her mouth and Alyeisha grabbed it.
I then told Alyeisha that she was a natural dog trainer.

Also another thing that I discovered about Ilse, is that food doesn’t always motivate her; I also presume this is because she isn’t a greedy dog then if I find she is in this mood I use toys, and she also likes licking people’s ears and being cuddled.

I just been getting Ilse to pick the rubber dumbell off the ground, and found by using the other toys had made it more exciting for her.
She is also a very smart dog, as even though I tried to get her to bring it to me I found her too quick as she still runs off rather then giving it to me.
So knowing that she likes dog biscuits I decided to open the jar, and give her one.
Then as she saw this she then decided to come up to me with the rubber dumbell in her mouth. Though she then dropped the rubber dumbell on the floor, but near me rather then letting me grab it.
