Lewis Dog Training

Yesterday, mum and I took Ilse to Imparra Pet Motel in Purga as they hold dog training classes there and mum and I was both impressed with how it was run. We got up at six am and left home at six thirty, and when we got there I then paid one hundred dollars for an eight week course. Also it is normally one hundred and twenty dollars, as people are given a book and a dvd when they sign up but as I already had them I was given a twenty dollars reduction.

The person who took the class is called Sid Lewis, and he gave us a good talk and then after that we then train our dogs. It was interesting to discover different ideas as Sid’s way was to keep walking at a brisk pace and giving dogs plenty of praise when our dogs are doing what we want. My mother is handling Ilse in class for me as we think that is important and Ilse is the type of dog that can be trained by anyone as I’m training Ilse as well and when she can walk my pace I’ll be the one putting Ilse in class. I also think that Ilse is smart enough to learn to walk my pace as well as mum’s.

Before we went there mum rang up and asked whether they approved of using food and check chains and she told me that Sid said yes, this made us happy as we are aware that some people don’t like the idea of using check chains; also some people don’t like the idea of using food either and mum and I often said that Ilse needed a check chain as when she has it on her she takes more notice and is better behaved. Mum and I both went away thinking that it was worth paying one hundred dollars and it was also interesting to watch Sid’s way of taking the class as I thought that it was very unique.

Today mum and I took Ilse to Imparra Pet Motel again and we had a female instructor this time, (as Sid was away) but I heard him say that he be back next week to take the class. I also don’t know this lady who instructed today name but she told the class that she instructs a bit differently to Sid, and today the dogs heeled, sat, and did stays and drop. There’s about six in the class, and quite a few people look as though they had never trained a dog before.

Yesterday, mum and I took Ilse again to Imparra Pet Motel, and the instuctor that took the class yesterday also took the class last week and her name is Anne.

She also has two Munsterlanders, which are brother and sister and these gundogs are a German breed. (Sid got German Shepherds.)

Anyway, this is our third week at training and I thought that I saw an improvement in all the dogs and handlers.

Anne got us to do pretty much the same as last week and when she did a demo on how to handle our dogs when we do a recall on lead she took Ilse; she then gave her back to mum and said something like better get a dog who doesn’t yet know it.
