Drawspace Art Lesson B03September 21st, 2007 @ 6:40 pm
Brenda’s third B group lesson is called simple symmetry, and when we are drawing it is important to concentrate on the shapes and lines that we are trying to draw as well as having all the tools to do the job; this is also hard for a beginner to do as when they try to repeat what they have done they may find that every drawing they do looks different. And this is why having a understanding of symmetry is so important Brenda says.
Because having a understanding of what it is would suddenly improve the quality of our drawings and make them look more real and believeable. And to be able to do this we will need pencils, rulers, and erasers as well as possessing a great lot of patience as it is not scribble that we are trying to do it’s about dividing our drawing subject in half and after drawing one half we then try to produce a mirror image on the other side.
Brenda also advises that we can greatly enhance our drawings by taking the time to practice drawing symmetry exercises, and I’m really pleased with these lessons as so far I have completed doing a couple of these symmetry exercises and have also drawn a candle that was the shape of a duck or duckling.

Hi Jo, you are leaving me far behind. I will try and catch up this week. Some of these lessons are relevant to what I’m doing at uni at the moment.
